Prince Louis Arthur Charles

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have named their third child Louis (pronounced Loo-ee) Arthur Charles which was revealed early on Friday morning to the public. Born on Monday morning at 11:01 BST, the newest arrival to the royal family weighed eight pounds and seven ounces. Prince Louis is fifth in line for the throne after his grandfather, Prince

Charles; his father, Prince William; and his two older siblings, Prince George (4) and Princess Charlotte (2).

After the reveal of the new prince's name, some people were curious about why that name was chosen. The name is more commonly associated with kings of France, but the name has German origins as well-meaning: "renowned warrior." The names honor both the Prince's grandfather, Prince Charles, and Louis Mountbatten, the Duke of Edinburgh's mentor that was killed by an IRA bomb in 1979. Prince George and Prince William both have Louis as middle names too.

The announcement of the new baby's name had been eagerly anticipated since the royal couple showed their baby to the world on Monday night. Since then, the Duke and Duchess have been settling into Kensington Palace as a new family of five.
