All the Difference

Suicide is one of the leading causes of death for both teens and young adults.

A key factor in suicide prevention is taking the time to reach out to someone. The idea seems simple in theory, but reaching out to someone who is experiencing this type of situation can be extremely sensitive; therefore, it is important how one approaches the situation.

In The Fray’s “How To Save A Life,” someone tries to take action by sitting down with a friend to show he/she cares. The chorus of the song starts with “Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend somewhere along the bitterness and I would have stayed up with you all night, had I known how to save a life." This person continues to struggle with trying to assist the friend in any way that could alleviate his/her struggles.

The key message of the song is to take action. If you notice a friend altering their behavior and seemingly depressed, please reach out to them! A simple conversation, or even a smile and wave in the hallway, can be beneficial.

You can make a difference in preventing someone from becoming apart of the statistic.

You could make all the difference.
