Here are three lessons one learns while in high school:
1. You can’t skip school
Even if you need to take a day, skipping school isn’t an option. The amount of work that you know you’re going to miss outweighs the relaxation your “off day” would provide. The opportunity to take a breath and just exist. The school recently changed the amount of parent excuse absences from 18 to 9, but this doesn’t affect you. You knew you weren’t going to miss a day - unless your mom or doctor forced you to.
2. An 80 in an AP class is better than a 100 in a regular one
Last year, you took all advanced classes. This year, you wanted to spend more time focusing on things outside of the classroom. Now, you’re beginning to excel in your regular classes; you’re getting grades that you only ever dreamt of getting in the advanced classes. The only problem is soon you’ll have to apply for colleges, but the rest of the soon-to-be graduates that you’re competing against stayed in their AP classes.
3. You won’t really catch up on sleep this weekend.
Last night, you stayed up late to finish that paper. This morning, you woke up early to study for your math test. The 8:15 bell just rang, and you’re already planning what subject you’ll stay up late for today. Friday night you may or may not be at the game. Saturday you might hang out with friends. Sunday is reserved for homework, but you’ll push it until after dinner. Then the week starts over, and you’re still sleep deprived.
