Youngblood by 5 Seconds of Summer came out June 15th of this year. When the four boys announced they would be making a big comeback with this third studio album, millions of fans from across the world couldn’t wait to hear the finished product. Much to their disappointment, many fans felt the album wasn’t quite what they were expecting. Fans were craving the edgy pop style that the band had in prior albums, but the boys had moved on and decided that it was time for a new era of 5 Seconds of Summer.
Instead of the previous style, the new album goes completely in the direction of pop with some influence from the 80s. The album contains thirteen songs, but some deluxe albums that can be purchased at Target also include a few others such as: “Babylon,” “Meet You There,” and “Monster Among Men.” The three singles from Youngblood include “Youngblood,” “Want You Back,” and “Valentine.” “Valentine" includes other vocals from members of the band besides their normal lead singer, Luke Hemmings.
Some of the meanings and lyrics inside the tracks of this new album reflect how the boys in the band are really feeling. One upbeat song that is more than likely inspired by another band, Fall Out Boy, is called “More.” In the first verse of the song, there is a lyric saying “A house that’s full of everything we wanted/But it’s an empty home" proving fame can not lead you to everything.
The four boys - Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood, Michael Clifford, and Ashton Irwin - have been touring the world, and it looks like they are having the best time performing. In spring of 2018, the band tried doing a small club tour which sold out in three minutes. Their current tour, Meet You There, started back in August, and the shows just won’t stop selling out.
It isn’t all bad that 5 Seconds of Summer have parted ways with their edgy punk rock style. The new music focuses more on pop but has lots of different tones that many love. There may not ever be a song like “She Looks So Perfect,” ever again, but at least the members of the band are having a great time on stage!
