An Underrated TV Show

There are plenty of TV shows are underrated, but the most underrated show of the 2000’s by far is NBC’s Parks and Recreation. Parks and Recreation is an Emmy-nominated comedy/mockumentary about the parks and recreation department of government in the fictional city of Pawnee, Indiana. It takes place in an office run by Ron Swanson and Leslie Knope. Of course, the creators of the show are Michael Schur and Greg Daniels, the same creators of The Office, so it is basically bound to be iconic. This show is a work of pure genius and deserves to recognized as such.

For example, in the show, the jokes are very subtle, so it takes a certain level of intelligence to understand what’s supposed to be funny; however, when you understand what is being said by each character (with perfect timing), you realize how gifted the writers are.

Secondly, each character is dynamic in their own way. Throughout the series, each individual character undergoes an important inner change, which helps keep the show rolling and keeps us entertained. With the constant development of the characters, it’s impossible not to become hooked.

Additionally, and most importantly, the show is relevant. It humorously incorporates controversial issues and events and subtly pokes fun at the U.S. government. What better way to heighten the morale of the people with little faith in our government than comic relief.

Between the hilarious jokes, the evolution of characters, and its relevance, Parks and Recreation is one of the best and most-underrated TV shows today. If you are interested, you can watch Parks and Recreation on Netflix, Hulu, or catch it on Comedy Central occasionally.
