The Grammy Award, conducted annually, congratulates music artists across all genres of music. The first Awards ceremony was on May 4, 1959, and its purpose was to honor the musical accomplishments by performers of the year before. Millions of viewers across the USA tune in on TV because only a few lucky people have the opportunity to attend the ceremony itself.
This year, the Grammys was at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 10th. Apart from the awards given in specific categories, famous artists perform electrifying songs during the event. Some of the performers this year include the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Camila Cabello, Cardi B, Post Malone, Shawn Mendes, and several other famous music celebrities. The Grammys made sure to include many upcoming artists as well.
Over the past years, rap artists have protested against the Grammy awards because they feel that it underrepresents the hip hop community; however, some rap artists were able to stun the crowd as they won many awards in several different categories. For example, Childish Gambino won song of the year with “This is America,” and Cardi B made history as the first solo woman to win the best rap album.
The Grammy Awards have been a large part of American popular culture, and I can’t wait to see what next year brings for this award!
