Best Spots for a Senior Trip

Selma Maric

Many students, especially at Spain Park, are on the lookout for spots for a nice senior trip with their friends before a new chapter of their lives begins. With that being said, here are the top 5 most popular spots near Alabama for senior trips (in no particular order).

1. The Beach

Okay, now whether this is a state beach like Gulf Shores or a Florida beach like Seaside or Panama City, the beach is a classic and obvious choice for many seniors. Booking a house at Seagrove or Rosemary is a choice for many; however, many seniors prefer to spend spring break at the houses there, so the beach may not be the best option for an unforgettable senior trip. Nevertheless, who doesn’t love the beach? It’s a safe and enjoyable place to spend a week of your summer and there are always ways to make it more special such as renting a fun Airbnb right on the shore.

2. Out of the Country

Completely contrasting the option above, taking a trip to Europe with family is also a popular option for many seniors. Paris, London, and Rome are huge tourist destinations that attract a lot of teens and their families during the summertime and are definitely good places to splurge money on. Though this is a pricier option for a senior trip, taking it with your family and bringing along a camera or two would make for one of the best vacations.

3. Nashville, Atlanta, New Orleans, New York City, or Chicago

All of these are classic city destinations that are worth exploring during a senior trip. Whether with friends or family, it is definitely easy to make the best of your time in any of these cities. Touring museums, trying out new foods, and checking out the local shops are only some of the opportunities that are available. Some are definitely more affordable than others, but hotel deals can be found during certain times of the summer if they are booked a time in advance.

4. Road Trip

Though the east side of the United States isn’t very popular for road trip destinations, the west is well known for it. Summer after summer, many families book flights out to a western state like Nevada, Colorado, and Utah and rent out a car to drive around several states. This is more popular for students and their families who are more active and looking to be more immersed in hiking/nature exploring activities.

5. Nature Destinations in and out of Alabama

Speaking of exploring nature, there are many beautiful waterfalls and trails that many love to explore within Alabama and its neighbor Georgia. Whether it's renting out a cabin in Blue Ridge Georgia or taking a trip to one of Alabama’s lakes, there are a lot of trees to see. There are unique places that are fun for a weekend trip or getaway such as Goat Island at Lake Martin or even Desoto Caverns. Staying in or near the state is a safe option for many seniors if their parents say they have to be close to home and they want to travel with just their friends.
