Costuming for Xanadu

As Spain Park Theatre’s production of Xanadu draws closer, a small group of students have been working tirelessly to create beautiful, eye-catching costumes for all twenty-two cast members. The costuming designs for this production are demanding; many actors play multiple characters, and many of the costumes are too specialized to be found online, so some costumes must be sewn from scratch. One of the costumes being sewn from scratch is the pink dress for Kira, the main character of the show, and all of the dresses for the muse sisters must be altered and decorated with a shiny crystal organza.

On top of costuming, some members of the cast rollerskate, and costumers are in the midst of painstakingly glittering skates with mod podge (pictured on the right). Emily Schultz, the head costume designer (pictured above), said this regarding costuming for the show: “It’s very difficult, I’ve cried at least four times, but it’s really rewarding.” The costuming for Spain Park’s Xanadu is sure to be a beautiful blend of nineteen-eighties nostalgia and Grecian elegance; don’t miss out on seeing this amazing show! Spain Park Theatre will perform Xanadu on April 22nd through 25th, at 7 pm each day with performances at 2 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
